Post-specific requirements
The following is a post-specific summary based on the official DOS supplement PDF for the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt (DOS post code FRN), last updated January 29, 2026. All claims below are sourced from that document. Applicants should always verify requirements against the current PDF before their appointment.
Step 1. Online registration
Before the interview, all applicants must complete registration at ustraveldocs.com/de/en/immigrant-visa. Failure to complete this step may result in the appointment being rescheduled. To reschedule or cancel, email the Frankfurt Visa Navigator at tinyurl.com/FrankfurtVisas. There may be a significant wait before the next available appointment, so attempt to attend your assigned date. There is no guarantee that a visa will still be available if you reschedule your appointment. Consulate address: Giesener Str. 30, 60435 Frankfurt am Main.
Interview day logistics
- Arrive 15 minutes early. Bring only interview-required items.
- Check the consulate website for prohibited items: de.usembassy.gov/security-notice-prohibited-items/
- Accompanying persons permitted: U.S. citizen petitioners; ONE interpreter (if not fluent in English or German); ONE special needs assistant (elderly, disabled, or minor applicant).
- Accepted fee payment: cash in U.S. dollars or Euro; Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover (no EC cards); American Express or U.S. Postal Service international money orders; American or German bank cashier's checks payable to the appropriate U.S. Consulate General or U.S. Embassy Berlin (not from DZ Bank or affiliates; must be machine-readable with coded line at bottom; maximum 10cm width). No personal checks. Application fees are non-refundable if found ineligible.
- Do not make travel plans outside of Germany. After approval, the passport is held while the immigration packet is prepared; visa is mailed via the delivery method selected in Step 1.
- If a sealed envelope is received, do not open it; carry it and give to U.S. immigration authorities. If the annotation reads "IV DOCS IN CCD," documents are transmitted electronically and no sealed envelope is issued.
- Most administrative processing cases: wait at least 60 days before inquiring about status.
Medical examination
All applicants regardless of age must complete the medical exam before the visa interview. The medical exam report is valid for 6 months; the visa is only valid until the medical exam expires. Afghan SIV applicants schedule the exam after the interview. IV consolidation applicants should ideally complete the exam in their home country if a panel physician is present there.
